One Way Out of Depression’s Darkness into God’s Light

Lately, I have seen so many heart-wrenching Facebook posts from people sharing their feelings of depression and grieving. They seem to be searching for answers to questions about why they are unhappy in their current life situations. A lot of these posts are coming from young people. I know this, because many of the individuals are former students I’ve had in middle school. I am so honored that they would reach out to me, to be FB “friends”. I typically respond to these posts with a positive vibe—suggesting they turn to God for their answers. Admittedly, sometimes I recommend they read my book for answers.

The BEST BOOK to find answers in, however, is The Holy Bible. This edition of my blog will be loaded with scriptures directing you, reader, to God’s Word leading you to how you can see a better way to live your life. You DO NOT have to remain mired in a quagmire created and maintained by society! God can lift you up and out of your presently depressing condition—IF ONLY YOU WILL ASK AND LET HIM HELP YOU. (I need to tell you that to pursue these Bible “gems” you will need to be seeking God’s help—I cannot live by the Bible’s direction on my own—I need God to help me. But understand, it is possible to do this through the Power of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit; please believe and see how wonderful your life can be.)

Let’s look at these passages:

“Always be full of joy in the Lord … rejoice! Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers” (Philippians 4:4 and 6, TLB). God is on your side in this life (and by the way, in the next life, too). The LORD wants to hear from you and me regularly. We are not alone in this world.

“Pray all the time. Ask God for anything in line with the Holy Spirit’s wishes. Plead with him, reminding him of your needs, and keep praying earnestly for all Christians everywhere” (Ephesians, 6:18 TLB italics added). “Pray all the time…” You can do this! I even pray in the car at times (no, I don’t close my eyes!). These are short, simple prayers, but God honors and answers these prayers, also. “Plead with him, reminding him of your needs…” The Bible tells us that God wants us to bring our needs to Him so He can make our lives more complete as He rescues us from life’s shortcomings; He will even at times save us from ourselves.

“Always give thanks for everything to our God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20, TLB). I know you’ve been putting up with me so far, but now you’re saying, “Rick, really?! ‘Always give thanks for everything…’?” Yep, just think for a minute. Look back in your life’s history. Have there been times when “bad things” actually led you to a greater strength or circumstance? You know, had they not happened you would have missed out on some “good things”? Well, THANK GOD! “Always give thanks for everything to our God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20, TLB).

Okay, finally, “Always be full of joy in the Lord … rejoice! Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers” (Philippians 4:4 and 6, TLB). “Pray all the time. Ask God for anything in line with the Holy Spirit’s wishes. Plead with him, reminding him of your needs” (Ephesians, 6:18 TLB italics added). “Always give thanks for everything to our God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20, TLB).

The Way Out of Depression’s Darkness into God’s Light starts with asking Christ into your heart, believing that God has forgiven you for your sins, and then reading God’s Word to show you how to live successfully. You can have a relationship with God by believing in Christ and acknowledging His Holy Spirit in your life. Ask the Holy Spirit into your heart—watch what happens after that! Wow! If you like, you may reach out to me through this website for help to navigate your new life. I will be honored to share more with you. There is a simple prayer in my book that you might want to pray. GOD BLESS YOU!
