Matthew records the events of three days after “Good Friday,” the day Jesus of Nazareth, God’s only Son was executed via crucifixion, the most hideous and humiliating method used to punish the vilest of characters in Jesus’ time. These records appear in all four of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).
We have chosen Matthew 28:1-10 for this week’s blog. Two women, “Mary Magdalene and ‘the other Mary’ went to look at the tomb” (Matthew 28:1 NIV, quotations added). When they arrived at the tomb they were welcomed by an angel.
The words they heard were sweet to their hearing. And they are just as warm and comforting as when they are spoken again today, 2,000 plus years later. “Jesus, who was crucified … is not here; he has risen, just as he said” (Matthew 28:5, 6 NIV).
This is what Christians celebrate all 365 days each year. But TODAY, having just relived the brutality associated with Jesus’ death, Easter is oh so special for Christians.
“HE IS RISEN INDEED!” GLORY BE TO GOD! Happy, happy Easter everyone!
